FAQs

Where can I buy? We will have our products available for direct purchase through our website soon! In the meantime you can contact us directly to order. We can ship the product to you or it is available for local pickup. You can also purchase our tallow balm at Soul Rituals in Sebastopol, Fern & Fae in Petaluma, and Refill Mercantile in Petaluma.

How long does it last? We recommend using the tallow balm within 8-10 months, but the shelf life lasts up to a year when stored correctly. It should be stored at room temperature in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight in a cabinet or drawer for the best results. You can extend the life of the tallow balm by storing in the refrigerator.
Note: tallow is temperature sensitive so it will get firmer if it is cold and softer if it is warm. This will not affect the quality of the balm. Balm that has been exposed to colder temperatures will still melt into to your skin when applied and absorb easily.

Does it smell like beef? Our tallow is purified and the end result has a slight to undetectable scent. The unscented version has been described as having no scent or a barely detectable hint of cooking oil.

Can I use it on my face? Yes! Tallow balm is non-comedogenic and can be used on the face or body. I use it on my face everyday and is my favorite way to use tallow balm!

Is it greasy? It is similar to applying a facial or body oil, it may feel a bit oily for a few minutes after application but it will quickly absorb into your skin leaving your skin feeling soft and silky. A little bit goes a long way! Start with a very small amount and apply more as needed. If you feel greasy, start with less, application can take some trial and error to find the right amount that suits your skin’s needs.

What is the texture? Our tallow balm is whipped so it has a soft, fluffy texture that is easy to retrieve from the jar and apply to your skin.
Note: tallow is temperature sensitive so it will get firmer if it is cold and softer if it is warm. This will not affect the quality of the balm. Balm that has been exposed to colder temperatures will still melt into to your skin when applied and absorb easily.

Can it be used on sensitive skin? Our tallow balm contains natural, high quality ingredients that are great for sensitive skin. However, you should always spot test skincare products if you are concerned about adverse reactions. Ingredients are purified beef tallow and organic cold-pressed jojoba oil. The scented versions also contain a small amount of organic essential oil.

Why does it contain jojoba oil? Tallow alone is very hard/firm. A carrier oil is used in tallow balm so that the product is soft and spreadable. Jojoba oil is non-comedegenic and is very similar to our natural skin oil and will absorb easily. Other carrier oils commonly used in tallow balm, like olive oil and coconut oil, are not non-comedogenic and can clog pores, so I do not recommend using these oils on your face. We do also make tallow balm with local EVOO, which is amazing for hands and body!

Do you make a larger jar? The standard size is 2 oz. (remember a small amount, goes a long way!), but if you would like a larger jar, please reach out! We are happy to try and accommodate your request.
